What we think about the new SureColor S9170

The EPSON SureColor S9170 is a new addition to the S-Series lineup, not a replacement for the SureColor S80600. It features an 11-color ink set, with the notable addition of GREEN ink. While it uses the same UltraChrome GS3 ink as the SureColor S80, the Green ink replaces metallic silver, expanding the color gamut by 13-19% compared to the S80.

The S9170 boasts a compact, precise, and efficient design, about a foot narrower than previous models. Its flat-top design not only enhances its aesthetics but also provides functional workspace. This printer introduces the first-ever user-replaceable print head, featuring the new PrecisionCore TFP print head, which is 1.3 times larger than that of the S80. It offers reduced banding and includes an ink temperature sensor directly on the nozzle.

Users can mix and match inks, choosing between 800mL or 1.5L ink packs. The S9170 also offers faster startup times with no need for cleaning packs or cartridges during initialization. Its nozzle verification technology automatically adjusts when a nozzle isn’t firing properly. Additionally, the printer is equipped with front and back loading levers and a media lifter for easier handling. Epson is collaborating with ONYX to provide a supporting RIP.

The EPSON SureColor S9170 is scheduled to ship in 2025. To secure your spot in the pre-order queue, call us at 1-800-771-9665, and we'll ensure you're among the first to receive it!

2 Results based on Epson and Avery internal lamination testing at six hours after printing. Your results may vary based on environmental conditions, media type used, ink density and other factors. For warranty information, please refer directly to the media and laminate manufacturer websites.
3 Versus comparable professional large-format (54" to 64'') solvent ink printers. Competitor specifications from industry available sources and manufacturer websites as of July 1, 2024.
